Whales, whales everywhere today. Whale One passengers, special guests and crew had an exciting day out on the water today. The seas were a little choppy as we cruised out in search of Migaloo “the white whale” and as the day progressed the seas flattened out beautifully.
Our whale mascot “Midgey” was amongst all the action as the pods passed the boat. With his two little friends all eyes were on the water wondering where the next pod were going to pop up.
A fierce battle between two male humpbacks “bulls” which were trying to win the favour of a female “cow” enthralled the passengers for over an hour and at one stage one humpback was seen attacking the other. These massive whales were showing off with lots of fluke up dives, Pec fin waving and even coming within metres of the boat.

At one stage a very large humpback was actually following the vessel. There were other whales further out which we also checked out as we were hoping for a sighting of Migaloo. But alas we had a report mid-morning that he had been sighted near North Stradbroke Island which meant he wasn’t going to reach the Sunshine Coast until later this evening.

Maybe he’ll decide to pop in on his way home in September or October.
