Awesome Day

We found a mother and calf 4 nautical miles off Point Cartwright that cruised with us for about 20 minutes before we decided leave them to their bonding time and went in search of more playful whales. We found an extremely energetic yearling (one year old) all by ‘himself’ who was breaching and going berserk. Since he was alone we assume he was doing this to make himself known

Whale One Mugging

Well what an awesome day we’ve had out on the water today! What started with a strong wind warning for this afternoon and a very small crowd on the boat we all wondered what the day was going to bring… but I doubt any of us expected the acrobatic circus we witnessed! Our day begun cruising out towards Moreton Island and just as we came into the whale highway we were gree

Another Test

Well hello from all the crew at Steve’s Whale One! We had a very bouncy day out there on the water today… big seas and lots of wind… made for a very interesting roller coaster ride! Unfortunately this made finding whales very very difficult and our chosen northerly track - the most comfortable for our passengers – didn’t bring us any closer to

Yearlings

Well it’s been a while between whales for Steve’s Whale One… We had an extra couple of days off this week as the sea conditions were pretty messy earlier in the week but we had a great day out today playing with a number of different pods. Our first encounter was with a young whale (a yearling) only 4 nautical miles off Point Cartwright. This little

Channel 9

Well what an amazing day we've had out here today! Welcoming on board the crew from Channel 9's "Saturday Afternoon" and Matt Basil (recipient of the Steve Irwin scholarship) from Shedd Aquarium we were pumped for an awesome day and we well and truly got it! Straight out of the harbour mouth we came across a large pod of Indo pacific humpback dolphins (Susa d

Amazing

Heading out through the harbour mouth we encountered the Indo-pacific humpback dolphins or Susa dolphins again… assuming luck was on our side we headed out 15 nautical miles east of Point Cartwright and with the perfect weather conditions actually spotted the blow from an offshore bottlenose dolphin first (very small compared to a whale and usually very hard to spot!). These dolphins le

Magical Whales

Amazing whales again!!!It was an absolutely gorgeous day on the water today... very little swell and no wind this morning... absolutely perfect! We encountered a pod of two animals 15 nautical miles east of Port Cartwright (back in the whale highway) and stayed with them only long enough to realise there were more whales out just a couple of miles further so

Feeling the love!!

Well there was a lot of love on Steve’s Whale One this morning and as we ventured out 15 nautical miles directly east of Point Cartwright we found a pair of sub adult males that were more than willing to share the love with us!!! The humpbacks were first spotted only a few hundred metres away from the vessel playing with a small pod of bottle nose dolphins. Once w

Hanging out at Moreton Island

It was an eerie day today as the wind picked up and the clouds came over... but the whales certainly put on a show and made us feel welcome! We had to venture a little further south than normal today and ended up not far from Moreton Island where we found a couple of pods of whales nearby and a pod of 3 whales - Mum, last year's calf and an escort (mum's new boyfriend)

Tail flukes and breaching babies!!

Well we found a great deal of whales out there in the whale highway and again had our pick of whales to play with. There were about 12 whales out with us at one stage but most of them pretty interested in each other and coming in close to us in just fleeting visits (whale fly by's) as they'd be cruising beside us, come in close and disappear under the boat only to
